Background
When Ashoka University tasked Allcap with commemorating its first decade, I teamed up with them to create Ashoka Alumni: Our Stories.
Instead of simply showcasing alumni profiles, we saw an opportunity to craft a narrative that highlighted the contributions of Ashoka graduates while connecting their past experiences to the impact they’re having on the future.
Ashoka Alumni: Our Stories, Volume One is more than a collection of profiles — it’s a powerful storytelling tool. Through strategic design and thoughtful narrative structure, we connected individual achievements to the larger legacy of Ashoka, celebrating both the past and future of the university.
Innovative Design Meets Storytelling
For this book, we broke away from the traditional alumni book format, weaving together long-form articles, short articles, personal Q&As, and curated pull quotes to create a cohesive and engaging experience.This approach highlighted the diversity of Ashoka’s alumni community, keeping the story engaging throughout.
A TYPOGRAPHY BASED APPROACH
Typography was a key element of the design, with enlarged initials, portraits seamlessly integrated with the typography, and quotes carefully placed within the layout. This approach helped maintain a cohesive design language while giving each story a personalized touch.
COVER DESIGN: STRATEGIC FIRST IMPRESSIONS
When it comes to visuals, first impressions make all the difference. Moving away from typical institutional designs, we introduced vibrant illustrations and a modern colour palette. Featuring portraits of Ashoka’s alumni, the cover serves as a visual introduction to the stories inside—contemporary and aspirational, yet grounded in the values that Ashoka represents.
